Welcome parents of 2017-18 St. John’s students,

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” – Isaiah 40:8 ESV

How many times have you changed jobs? How many times did you change your mind about what you wanted to be when you grew up? The person with a singular career goal is very rare today. In fact, data suggests that around 80% of college students change their major at least once. Asking a grade school student what they want to be when they grow up will get a variety of answers, but it is rarely a prediction of his or her future. Most students will change their minds multiple times before they find a career path they enjoy. How then, do you prepare young students for the world, when aspirations and job opportunities are changing so rapidly?

We can teach them to read and write. We can teach them to enjoy learning and to ask questions. We can help them to think critically about what they hear. These skills will always be valued in the job field. But as eyesight and memory fails in old age, these abilities fade, just like the withering grass.

Christian education offers something much better. Job skills are important, but eternal glory is priceless. At St. John’s we are excited to welcome another school year of assisting parents in preparing their children for their future in this world and their future eternal life. We all choose different career paths, but we can all agree that the best hope for the future is the hope of heavenly glory.

“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.” – 2 Corinthians 5:6-9 ESV
